Investment & Financial Modelling Associate
Own Tavion’s lender-grade financial models, shape BESS investment decisions, and turn complex analysis into clear insights for investors, lenders and the Investment Committee.
Role Description
The Investment & Financial Modelling Associate owns Tavion’s master financial model(s) end to end – architecture, methodology, build, version control and documentation – together with the base-case assumptions and data books that feed it. That model is how Tavion values projects, compares markets, allocates capital, raises equity and, with Structured Finance, structures debt. This role gives it one owner and takes it to a standard lenders, investors and the Investment Committee can rely on. The role has two halves: building a model that is solid and sound, and completing the financial analysis of the base case and agreed sensitivities – interpreting the results and providing the qualitative and quantitative commentary that goes to the Investment Committee, Board, investors and lenders.
You are accountable for the mechanics, integrity and consistency of the numbers and the sensitivity analysis built on them – and equally for interpreting the results: providing qualitative and quantitative commentary, and judging whether they are consistent with expectations and with what the market and our advisers indicate. The Head of Structured Finance provides quality control and a second pair of eyes; the recommendation sits with the Office and the decision with the Investment Committee.
Key Responsibilities
Own the model that underwrites the equity raise, selects our second market and sizes the debt – end to end: architecture, methodology, build, version control and documentation. Extend it from a forecasting model to one that also carries actuals, with Structured Finance, Revenue and Asset Management.
Set the basis every project and market is judged on – the assumptions book: a single, versioned register of revenue curves, CapEx, financing terms, degradation, cycling, fees and indexation, with a source, owner and date for every line.
Own the master data book (country-level) and project data books (project-specific). The feeding functions sign off their inputs; you make sure they are complete, current, consistent and applied the same way everywhere – one source of truth per data point.
Maintain the base valuation model the country M&A teams use, train them on it, and make sure deviations from the base case are reflected before a case reaches the Investment Committee.
Deliver the sensitivity and scenario output, with commentary on the results, for Investment Committee notes – project, country portfolio and group level (cash flow, leverage, merchant exposure, funding requirement) – and set the pre-FID escalation boundaries.
Maintain the group consolidation model and portfolio view, tracking live projects against their IC-approved case (IRR, CapEx, COD, key assumptions) for the monthly portfolio review.
Complete the financial analysis of the base case and agreed sensitivities and provide qualitative and quantitative commentary on the results – including reconciling our outputs to third-party market curves and advisers’ benchmarks and explaining the deviations in plain terms – to the Investment Committee, Board, investors and lenders.
Qualification Criteria
3–6 years of financial modelling in energy or infrastructure – project finance advisory, an infrastructure or energy-transition fund, an IPP or developer, a bank, or a Big Four modelling team. Hands-on BESS or renewables modelling is a strong plus. The band is deliberate: we want a hands-on builder who owns the mechanics from day one, with the Head of Structured Finance for sense-checking and room to grow into the wider mandate.
A track record of building and owning complex project finance models in Excel to lender-grade standard (FAST, SMART or similar) – debt sizing and sculpting, covenants, tax, accounting and consolidation across multiple SPVs and countries.
Having successfully completed a financial model audit to the satisfaction of lenders and/or investors.
A sound grasp of BESS revenue economics – merchant and contracted structures (floor, toll, swap), ancillary services, capacity markets, degradation and cycling – and how each flows through to valuation.
Python, Power BI or similar for data handling and automation is a plus.
The ability to review and comment on assumptions provided by internal and external stakeholders, challenge them on the evidence and identify trends and inconsistencies in the inputs.
The ability to complete quantitative and qualitative financial analysis, and to present and comment on the results to internal and external stakeholders – C-suite, Board, investors and lenders.
Personal Qualities
Rigorous and structured – builds models other people can audit, and treats documentation and version control as part of the job.
Owner of the numbers – takes end-to-end accountability for the model and its assumptions, and says so when something does not hold.
Comfortable with ambiguity – forms a defensible base case from imperfect data, and is explicit about what is fact and what is assumption.
Hands-on – happy to be the one building, not only reviewing.
Collaborative and low-ego – works across the Investment Office, Structured Finance, Revenue, Construction and the country teams.
What You’ll Get
A greenfield build. You design Tavion’s model and governance based on agreed guidelines and principles rather than inheriting someone else's spreadsheet.
Direct exposure at the top. You present your own work to the CIO, CFO, Investment Committee, Board, investors and lenders – not through three layers of review.
The first-market-to-multi-market arc. You model the country selection, the second market entry and the platform that follows.
Room to grow. A clear path into a wider Investment & Strategy mandate as the Office and portfolio build out.
Our Values
Ownership – a function has one owner. The model, the assumptions and the data books are yours.
Excellence – our numbers go in front of lenders, investors and the Board, and have to hold on that basis.
Passion – building an IFP from a first market into a pan-European platform takes grit on the days the data is late and the deadline is not.
Trust – assumptions get challenged here, in both directions, and we keep our commitments to each other.
